Information on the Composer-Competition for 2005


The aim:
In order to support young female and male composers the annual composition-competition is advertised by the foundation executive Dr. Ernst Grossmann, attorney at law, for the Franz Josef Reinl foundation in co-operation with the universities, colleges and conservatories for music.


The background:
The Franz Josef Reinl Stiftung was established by Hilde Reinl, the wife of the composer Franz Josef Reinl, who dies in 1977, and mother of the deceased harpist Herrmann Ertl, in their honour and in order to support young male and female musicians. Franz Josef Reinl (1903-1977) from 1926 on composed upon suggestion of Clemens Kraus light music on a higher level such as overtures, concert waltzes, suites and five dramatic works.
Mr. Ertl was an internationally renowned harpist.


Participants:
Invited are female and male composers, born later than January 1st, 1965,
former prize winners are excluded.


The work:
A composition of about 10 to 15 minutes - a piece of music which is demanding and full of quality through to your ability of entertainment in its musical character to be heard by a wide range of audience.
The duration of the perfomance is to be stated in the score.

The ensemble may consist of 3 to 27 musicians playing the following instruments:
one flute (also piccolo or alto flute) oboe, English horn, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, bass drum (1 player), percussion, piano, synthesizer, harp, (E)-guitar each; six violins, two violas, two violoncelli, one double bass.

The piece must not have been composed prior to 1995 and must not yet have been published or performed in public.

Papers for presentation:
The score provided with a key word is to be presented in 4 exemplifications (copy), they will not be retourned after contest (demonstration cassette possible, 3 copys has to be send). In a seperate accompanying letter containing the same key-word, the name, date of birth, nationality and address (with telephone, fax-number or e-mail address) of the composer are to be stated and he or she has to declare that he or she composed the work him-, herself and had accepted the conditions of participation.

The abovementioned papers for presentation are to be sent to (January 31st, 2005):

The prize:
The Reinl prize for 2005 for composition amounts to: for the 1. prize Euro 4.500,--, for the 2.prize Euro 3.000,--, for the 3.prize Euro 2.000,--. The prizes will be documented by diplomas.

Presumably the prizes will be awarded in June 2005 in Munich, Germany. Participation of the winners in the concert is obligatory.


The concert:
The concert of the winners is scheduled for June 2005 in Munich. There is no entitlement to a (public) concert.
