	"2 AGOSTO" INTERNATIONAL COMPOSING COMPETITION "2 AGOSTO" INTERNATIONAL COMPOSING COMPETITION ELEVTENTH EDITION 2005 COMPETITION ANNOUNCEMENT 1) The year 2005 marks the eleventh edition of the “2 Agosto” International Composing Competition, promoted by the “Associazione Familiari Vittime della Strage alla Stazione di Bologna del 2 Agosto 1980”, and the “Comitato di Solidarietà alle Vittime delle Stragi”. The Competition will award three prizes: First Prize: ? 5.000,00 Second Prize: ? 2.500,00 Third Prize: ? 1.500,00 2) The Competition is open to musicians of all nationalities, who are no older than 41 on May 30, 2005. 3) The Competition is to write a full score for: Trumpet and/or trombone (one soloist – trumpet or trombone – or two soloists – trumpet and trombone) and orchestra The scores must not last more than ten minutes. Since one of the main aims of the Competition is to create and develop links between different cultures, competitors can also include various musical styles belonging to folk, jazz, blues and rock traditions, at their own discretion. The scores selected for the final awards ceremony will be performed live in Piazza Maggiore, Bologna, at the Concert on 2nd August 2005, as one of the commemorative events held in memory of the victims of terrorist attack. The competitors are requested to bear in mind that one of the main aims of the Competition is the performance of the winning scores in Piazza Maggiore. This means that the Jury will not consider those scores that are unsuitable for open air performance (even if performed through appropriate amplification). 4) The maximum instrumentation allowed is the following: three flutes (one can be a piccolo), two oboes (one can be a cor anglais), two clarinets, two bassoons, four French horns, three trumpets, three trombones (one must be a bass trombone), tuba, timpani, percussion (two performers), and strings. Scores for a smaller instrumentation (but not larger, or different from the above indications) are also allowed. However, competitors must remember that the final concert will be held in the open-air. Scores may also include the following instruments: electric guitar, electric bass guitar and drums, as a rhythm section (that is, without soloist parts given to these instruments) - 1 – Concorso Internazionale di Composizione 2 Agosto via Polese 22 - 40122 Bologna (Italia) www.concorso2agosto.it -info@concorso2agosto.it 5) The soloist part must be composed for Bb trumpet and/or tenor trombone (one soloist, Bb trumpet or trombone, or two soloists, Bb trumpet and tenor trombone). Exclusively within the soloist part applicants may insert improvisation sections, either following jazz, rock or other folk styles and traditions, or following specific indications provided by the competitors themselves. For further information or requirements, competitors can contact the Competition Office. 6) The scores must be anonymous and must not contain any mark of identification. In a separate envelope, the participants must enclose their data (name, surname, place of birth, permanent address, telephone number and so on).The additional inclusion of a curriculum will be welcomed. The scores may be edited, but in this case we ask competitors to remove any editorial marks. However, the scores must not have been previously performed, and competitors must enclose a personal declaration confirming that the work has never been performed before. 7) The scores must be sent in threefold copy by registered post, together with the participant's data, to the following address: Secretary's Office of the International Composing Competition “2 Agosto“, via Polese 22 - 40122 Bologna (Italy) on or before May 10, 2005. The date on the postmark will indicate the application date. Alternatively, scores can be sent by internet, following the instructions given on the site: www.concorso2agosto.it However, only scores sent in pdf format, and not showing any form of personal identification, will be accepted Those composers selected for the final concert will be required to send the scores for each individual instrument. The scores will not be returned. 8) The commission's judgement cannot be appealed against.
