On Saturday 23rd October 2004 the EMJ organized a concert as a result of the composition competition for the 53rd European Music Festival. The composer Bart Picqueur from Zele (Belgium) won the third prize with his tasteful composition A Froghitters’ Fantasy, which also received the prize awarded by the public. But the laureate of the evening was Wouter Lenaerts from Peer (Belgium) with his composition Devil’s Island. The jury found the piece extremely suitable as a compulsory work for the pennant series A: symphonic bands, fanfares and brass bands of the 53rd EMJ.
