This guessing game is built around words from the dictionary. It is great, it is universal, but the drawback is that every word is independent from the previous one. You guess a word, you get a word, and everything is random in Wordle Unlimited Thematic packs fix this problem, and the difference is bigger than it seems. How topic mode works First of all, you pick the topic, and you receive names from this category, one by one. You guess a word, you receive another word right away. The main point here is that the length of words is not fixed during one game session. Sometimes you have to guess a five-letter name and sometimes a three-letter one. There is no rhythm in regular guessing game as in unlimited play. Every new word forces you to count tiles from scratch. Hints still work as usually – two hints per word. Your guesses count towards your level and rank in the same way as in any other game. Why topic mode is played differently Deduction is the same but retrieval is completely different. In regular guessing game the search space is all the words in English, and it is big but known. In topic mode the search space is small and precise but only if you know the topic. If you have watched every film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a six-letter name with the green letter O in the second position becomes a half-guessed name for you. But if you have not watched any films, you are lost because no frequency knowledge helps you with the name you've never heard. It makes topic mode similar to the quiz game where knowledge replaces the skill, and they are not complementary. Available topic packs There are hundreds of them and they are sorted into categories. Entertainment packs are the first packs to try because recognition is immediate and rewarding. Geography and brands packs are more lasting but it needs to be explained. The packs which teach you something unexpectedly The Countries, Capital Cities and Rivers of the World are the most interesting packs among all others because they become the revision exercise without looking like it. Playing through the pack of Capital Cities gives you names that you know only partially. You can solve easily names that you know for sure but then you meet the name that you guess for six attempts, and letters that you find in this process help you to memorize better than reading of the list. It is the testing effect: the retrieval of something under the mild stress improves memory much better than demonstration. And this is the reason why the geography packs work so well for the young players who won't even think about taking a quiz. No one sees this exercise as the learning process. And the same way brand packs work for anyone who has interest in automobile, phone or tech industries, and it is amazing how much of your knowledge is recognition and not recall. How to play the run correctly Count the tiles first. Because the length of the word is not fixed, the most common mistake is opening the word with the five-letter pattern when it is actually six. Use the theme immediately. In the standard play your first guess should cover as many letters as possible. In topic mode it is often better to guess the name that fits the topic because this guess will tell you what letters are frequent in this topic. Be ready for the uncommon letters. The proper names do not follow the same frequency rules as ordinary words. Names have much more K, Z, X, V and doubled letters than the dictionary has, and your optimized guesses will fail. Save the hints for names that you really don't know. In topic mode the revealed letter is usually enough to trigger the recognition of the name that you knew but couldn't guess. Where does it fit The topic mode is perfect if your standard guessing games became boring or if you want the session with the plot. And it is great if you are playing with the person with the different vocabulary. The kid who cannot compete in the seven-letter words can beat the adult in Disney or Spider-Man run. It is also perfect for live multiplay rooms where you can vote for the topic to play between rounds. This voting gives the rhythm to the session, and it makes people play longer than they planned.
