2004 INTERNATIONAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION The FEDERATION des EUROCHESTRIES organizes - as part of its program in the 2004 Festival - an International Composition Competition for symphonic orchestra. REGULATIONS : ARTICLE 1 The competition is open to all composers of any nationality and of any age. Taking part in the competition is free of charge. ARTICLE 2 Will be admitted in competition : Compositions for symphonic orchestra (see maximal nomenclature in article 14), without a soloist (no concertos). All transcriptions are excluded. ARTICLE 3 Every composer can present only one work. ARTICLE 4 The work is intended for musicians whose level corresponds to the upper Cycle of a National Conservatory. The work must be written in traditional musical notation and should not appeal to any instrument outside the proposed nomenclature. ARTICLE 5 The work can be divided into several movements or equivalent. The work as a whole must last between 10 and 15 minutes. ARTICLE 6 The candidates will have to certify in writing that the submitted works are original and have never been performed before an audience nor awarded a prize at any other competition. ARTICLE 7 The composers will have to send their scores in three (3) copies : They must be legible, handwritten in ink or first rate duplicates, or, as far as possible, by means of software (Finale, Encore). A sign (acronym, number, maxim or quotation) will have to appear on the first page of these scores. The sign should not refer to the composer's surname or first name, or to any information allowing to identify him (any indication allowing to know the origin of the work would involve its elimination). The same sign will have to be written on a separate envelope enclosing the following : - The composer's precise coordinates (surname, first name, full address, telephone number, etc.) - A concise curriculum vitae. - A photo of the composer. - The certificate described in article 6. ARTICLE 10 A maximum of 3 prizes can be awarded by the jury, and if necessary they will be attributed to two or several composers ex aequo. First Prize : 2500 euros. Second Prize : 1700 euros. Third Prize : 1000 euros. The jury reserves oneself a right not to award one or other of these prizes, and to attribute various mentions outside these 3 awards. The jury's decision will be proclaimed on the 30th of APRIL at the latest. ARTICLE 11 The awarded works will be executed during the 15th European Festival of Youth Orchestras, between the 9th and the 30th of July 2004.
