I was wearing a David Yurman gold bracelet (with cabochons), and a link snapped. The stones are still in place, everything’s intact, but I can’t wear it—it keeps slipping off. I took it in for repair, and they told me to turn it in for scrap. I feel like crying—it’s an expensive piece! Does that really mean that if something is broken, it immediately becomes trash? Where can I take this designer scrap so I’ll get paid for the brand name, rather than just having it melted down into a bar of metal?

Don’t even think about selling it for scrap—that’s a rip-off! With designer brands, it’s the opposite: even a broken David Yurman piece is worth many times more than regular gold because the cabochons and design are instantly recognizable. This page is here to help—Luxe Brokers appraises these items fairly. To them, it’s not scrap, but a liquid asset. You send them a photo of the damage, and they assess the weight, fineness, and condition of the stones. They know that items like these can be easily repaired and resold within their circles, so they pay a premium for the brand, even if a link is broken.
